December 28, 2011 | There are many Plastic Bags

I guess the wind currents that blow down the streets with tall buildings cause litter like the plastic bag to go airborne and attach itself to some tree branches, if conditions are right.

I’m not really excited about this photo except for the whole concept of the bag in a tree – sort of like a six pack holder on a bird, but less graphic/harmful, yet sort of just as disgusting insofar as the way plastic bags are used here in this city, as well as the many others.  I usually do not need a bag, but cashiers are basically on autopilot and are so fast to bag my stuff that I wind up with them too.

December 27, 2011 | This is San Francisco on Photoshop

Here is a street view on San Francisco.  Wish I could live there, for at least a small part of my life.  I farted around in photoshop with this.  Loads of layers and adjustments.  Some of the masks still need a tweak if I were to print this.  Maybe toss the blur and the radial gradient in the bin.  But I’m all stoked on this new camera I just bought online for 50 bucks that is still in the mail from Hong Kong: the Holga 120 wpc – which is a plastic medium format pinhole camera.  There is a flickr group with loads of photos from this camera.  Really awesome work.  So we’ll see if the medium format thing lives up to all the hype.  Not that the Holga is the best camera – but in terms of pinhole, the images folks are getting, really are amazing.

December 25, 2011

This is a crab salad that I made for my family for Christmas Dinner.  If  you want the recipe I’ll break it down for you.

Toss spinach leaves in dressing, preferably a lemony dressing.  Place on plate.

Toss julienned Fennel Bulb in dressing, place on top of spinach.

I prepared the beets in advance by slicing them up like so, and then bringing them to boiling in some water that I flavored up with rice vinegar and sugar – only for a moment, then allowing them to cool in the liquid until later when I strained them and put them away until I was ready to put them next to the fennel on the salad.

After that, I topped it with some fresh crab and grated some parm on top.  boom.

December 22, 2011| Moon rising at (pre)dawn

Here is a little sliver of a moon.  Rising at dawn over the houses on my block.  This is a 200mm shot. @ f18 for 1.3seconds at ISO 100.  It was sort of windy and my shitty tripod worked again.  I used the 10 second timer on the camera because I didn’t want to find my cable release.  This is my third picture in a row from my house.  I need to get out more!
